Health Benefits of Exercise

There are many reasons why people choose to begin and continue a regular exercise regiment. Some people exercise for the sole purpose of looking better, others exercise to improve an existing illness, and then there are people that perform activities to develop and/or maintain all around health. What ever your reason, it is always a good idea to exercise in some way. If you are not sure of why to perform exercise I have provided some reasons below.

1. Metabolism Improvements.
Increased Caloric Burn: Performing regular exercise causes you to increase the bodies lean body mass (Increased Muscle). It is proven that one pound of lean body mass can burn ten times as many calories as one pound of body fat. It is a fact that the more efficient your body works, the better it can use(burn) calories that you intake. People that exercise regularly maintain a higher metabolism not only during the exercise, but for short periods after the exercise. Strengthening the cardiovascular and respiratory system through exercise makes the body more efficient in all of its operating functions, including the use of calories.

2. Major Illness Prevention.
Cardiovascular Disease: Regular exercise helps by lowering the bad cholesterol (LDL), and increasing the good cholesterol (HDL) concentrations. This can lower blood pressure and/or prevent the onset of high blood pressure. Exercising regularly actually increases the lungs capacity to take in, and deliver oxygen that carries nourishment to your bodies cells.

Osteoporosis Prevention: Strength training has been shown to prevent bone deterioration, and can actually stimulate bone growth. The stronger your bones are, the better chance of preventing major injury from falls or other traumas that may occur.

Diabetes Improvement & Prevention: During exercise the body can use sugars as a energy source thus removing excess sugars from the blood stream. Exercise also helps the body to use insulin more efficiently. This is done by the body increasing its sensitivity to insulin with exercise and allowing the sugars to be more easily transported into the cells for use.

3. The Mental Fight.
Stress Reduction: Exercising in some form not only provides physical benefits, but can provide mental relief. It can give you a feeling of positive accomplishment. It is something that provides positive effects and allows people feel like they are doing something that can be just for them. Exercise can provide a release of sorts, for people to remove negative or anxious feelings. Seeing and feeling improvements in ones body can be very exhilarating.

Fighting Depression: Regular physical activity activates the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine to be at a balanced state. These chemicals are said to be directly associated with depression when they are out of balance. It is also important to know that exercise stimulates the neurotransmitter endorphin which provides a a euphoric or good feeling that can also fight stress and depression.

4. Many Ways To Stay Healthy.
Play a Sport: There is ales the main sports; basketball, hockey, softball, baseball, or football. These are not the only options. Some people may rather play Frisbee golf, golf, marathons, etc. Think outside the box, because everyone has different tastes and there are so many options out there. Check your local community center, online or just ask around.

Outdoor Activities: Hiking, canoeing, biking roller blading, skating, hunting, or simple walking.

Hire a Personal Trainer: If you can afford to hire someone to help they can help hold people accountable. A trainer can help to set up programs and provide ideas to maintain interest.Sometimes people need to be out of pocket to keep them going.

Simple Additions: Park farther away from the store when shopping, walk to the store, take the stairs instead of taking the elevator, walk in place when watching television, or even removing some of the conveniences of everyday life.
